Fernie - Boom Lift Operator Practical Evaluation

Join us for the mandatory in-person practical assessment for your Boom Lift (MEWP) Operator Certification. This hands-on session focuses on applying classroom theory to the real-world operation of articulating and telescopic boom lifts. Operators will demonstrate the practical skills necessary to navigate complex elevations, manage their swing radius, and work safely at heights.

What to Expect: Under the guidance of a certified instructor, participants will complete a comprehensive practical evaluation covering:

• Pre-Use Inspections & Function Tests: Conducting thorough visual walk-arounds, inspecting the chassis, boom sections, and hydraulic lines, and testing both ground and platform controls (including emergency stops and the foot pedal switch).
• Safe Operation & Maneuvering: Practicing safe entry, securing fall protection equipment, smoothly operating boom functions (raising, extending, rotating, and lowering), and safely driving the machine in stowed and elevated positions.
• Navigating Site-Specific Hazards: Managing the "catapult effect," identifying overhead obstacles and powerline clearances, maintaining spatial awareness of the tailswing, and monitoring safe wind-speed limits and ground conditions.
• Emergency Procedures & Shutdown: Locating and successfully operating the auxiliary/emergency lowering controls, safely parking, fully retracting and lowering the boom, and securing the equipment.

Prerequisites & Requirements:

• Successful completion of the Boom Lift (MEWP) Theory Training portion.
• Required PPE: CSA-approved safety boots, hard hat, high-visibility vest, and a CSA-approved full-body harness with an appropriate lanyard (mandatory for boom lift operation).
