Fernie - Scissor Lift Practical Evaluation

Join us for the mandatory in-person practical assessment for your Scissor Lift (MEWP) Operator Certification. This hands-on session focuses on applying classroom theory to real-world operation, ensuring operators possess the practical skills necessary to work safely at heights and maneuver the platform securely on the job site.

What to Expect: Under the guidance of a certified instructor, participants will complete a comprehensive practical evaluation covering:

• Pre-Use Inspections & Function Tests: Conducting thorough visual walk-arounds, inspecting the scissor mechanism and chassis, verifying pothole protection deployment, and testing both ground and platform controls.
• Safe Operation & Maneuvering: Practicing safe entry and exit (3-point contact), smoothly raising and lowering the platform, and safely driving the lift (both stowed and elevated, if permitted by the equipment).
• Navigating Site-Specific Hazards: Identifying and mitigating risks such as overhead obstacles, powerline clearances, tip-over hazards (uneven ground, drop-offs, and floor openings), and monitoring safe wind-speed limits.
• Emergency Procedures & Shutdown: Locating and operating the emergency lowering controls, safely parking the unit, lowering the platform fully, plugging in to charge (if electric), and securing the equipment.

Prerequisites & Requirements:

• Successful completion of the Scissor Lift (MEWP) Theory Training portion.
• Required PPE: CSA-approved safety boots, hard hat, and high-visibility vest. (Note: A full-body harness and lanyard may also be required depending on your specific site policies or jurisdiction).
