Fernie - Skid Steer Practical Evaluation

Join us for the mandatory in-person practical assessment for your Skid Steer Operator Certification. This hands-on session bridges the gap between classroom theory and real-world application, ensuring operators have the practical skills necessary to run wheeled or track loaders safely and efficiently on the job site.

What to Expect: Under the guidance of a certified instructor, participants will complete a comprehensive practical evaluation covering:

• Pre-Use Inspections: Conducting systematic walk-arounds, inspecting hydraulic lines, checking tire/track condition, and identifying critical pinch and crush points.
• Safe Operation & Load Handling: Safely mounting and dismounting (3-point contact), mastering joystick and lever controls, and executing core operational tasks such as digging, backfilling, carrying loads, and back-dragging.
• Attachment Management: Safely coupling, uncoupling, and securing various attachments (e.g., buckets, forks).
• Navigating Site-Specific Hazards: Managing machine stability and center of gravity on uneven terrain and slopes, executing safe zero-radius turns, and mitigating risks involving blind spots and pedestrian traffic.
• Proper Shutdown: Safely parking, lowering the bucket/attachment flat to the ground, relieving hydraulic pressure, and securing the equipment.

Prerequisites & Requirements:

• Successful completion of the Skid Steer Theory Training portion.
• Required PPE: CSA-approved safety boots, hard hat, and high-visibility vest.
